24 May Mary Little Lamb poem by Sarah Josepha

On 24th of May 1830, Mary had a little lamb poem was published. This poem appears quite relatable to children who have learned and sung it in their primary years. It is also nostalgic for the parents who spent hours in making their children learn. Poem highlighted the love of Mary for the lamb and reflect the amicable relationship between human and animal. Its Lyrics goes like this.

Mary had a little lamb,
It's fleece was white as snow;
And everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school one day
Which was against the rule;
It made the children laugh and play,
To see a lamb at school.

And so the teacher turned him out,
But still he lingered near;
And waited patiently about
Till Mary did appear.

What makes the lamb love Mary so?
The eager children cry;
Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know,
The teacher did reply "Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know," The teacher did reply.

This nursery rhyme was first published by Boston publishing firm as a poem by Sarah Josepha Hale and later set on the melody by Lowell Mason. What’s interesting about this poem is that it was the first audio recorded by Thomas Edison on his newly invented Phonograph in 1877. It was the first verse which was recorded then. Now on 24th May it’s time to invoke that inner child and let the rhythm of rhyme to make your soul feel better.
