Human considers endowing with innate intellectual abilities which got its reflection in materialistic things around us. Humans invented things to fulfill their necessity and satiate their materialistic pleasure. An automobile is the instance of this which acts as a major transport carrier. Sharing this vision, Volkswagen was founded on 28^th May 1937 and with time it's become the European Largest carmaker. It is currently headquartered in Wolfsburg.

A Brief History

It started its Journey in 1937 when the company was known as ‘Gesellschaft zur Vorbereitung des Deutschen Volkswagens mbH’.Volkswagen was founded by National Socialist Deutsche Arbeitsfront (German Labour Front).

Volkswagen came into existence when Adolf Hitler selected Ferdinand Porshe to follow Henry ford lead and design car that’s known to be People car. Hitler gave ‘KDF-Wagen’ name to the car where KDF stands for ‘Strength through Joy’. However, people preferred to call it Volkswagen that means ‘the People’s Car.

Volkswagen Scandal and controversies

Success always accompanied with controversies and Volkswagen got a taste of that by stepping into two controversies.

• First, it is called Volkswagen emissions scandal or Dieselgate where the company has installed certain software in their cars which help them to bypass the US emission standards. These programmed diesel engines activate their emissions controls only during laboratory emissions testing to meet US standards during regulatory testing, but emit way higher emissions during real-time testing. Volkswagen violates the US clean air act and settles it by paying whopping 25 Billion US dollars.

• Second, Researchers funded by Volkswagen tested their emissions on animals and Humans separately by making them inhale the Polluting emissions from their cars.

Despite all the controversies, Volkswagen making foray into future with its new initiatives like recently Apple got into the pact with Volkswagen for making self-driving cars. All this signify the great future for the Volkswagen.
