La Gazette- First French newspaper published on 30th May



Since the dawn of civilization, Human Being attempt to display their creative bent of mind through various windows be it through Paintings, Murals. Journalism just added another feather to ongoing creativity. Following this course, La Gazette, the first French newspaper was published on 30th May 1631. It was founded by Théophraste Renaudot.




At times when states were autocratically ruled and everything was highly centralized and controlled, La Gazette appeared as a weekly sheet which published government sanctioned news. Before that reports on current events usually circulated as hand-written papers. With the emergence of la Gazette, It took the center stage in the dissemination of news in France and thus became a great means for controlling the flow of information.

La Gazette main objective was to disseminate information regarding happenings from Noble court. It was focused mainly on Diplomatic and political affairs. Views written in La Gazette were very prudent and impartial. It worked well in disseminating information to end Readers. It taught readers to think about what they did not know and know what they did not understand.

Since then there is no looking back with the emergence of many newspapers and newspapers continue to be a source of information for most of the French people.
