It was designed in France and later bought in America as it was a joint effort of America and France. It was given the name ‘Liberty enlightening the world’.
Since it was constructed in France and later on brought in the USA, so choosing an optimum site for installation was crucial. An island called BedLoe’s island opted for its installation and its face was directed towards Europe so that it could welcome migrants. Later on, Bedloe’s Island was named as Liberty Island.
