On 29th July-International Atomic energy Agency (IAEA) was Established

Since the advent of the Industrial Revolution there has been a spurt in the number of Industrial Units. These Industrial Units required Infrastructure in terms of transport, energy and other structural utilities. Industrial needs coupled with Human energy needs led to the origin of energy resource called Nuclear Energy. Being a Potential source of energy that can be utilized for Military purposes and in order to curb that type of use, there was an establishment of an agency called International Atomic energy agency on 29th July 1957. What is International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

International Atomic energy agency is an independent intergovernmental forum that works for the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear science and technology. It works to inhibit the use of nuclear technology for any military purposes like the nuclear weapons.IAEA Headquarters are in Vienna, Austria and have around 170 Member states. Mission of IAEA

Origin of Agency like IAEA has a certain mission which it tries to accomplish like the following

Promote Peaceful Uses-According to Article 2 and 3 of the IAEA statute, Its objective is to accelerate and enlarge the contribution of atomic energy to the peace and prosperity of the world. It has three Departments that solely charged with the promotion of peaceful uses of energy.

Application of Safeguards-Its mandate is also pointed towards providing safeguards so that nuclear science cannot be utilized for any Military Purposes. There is a department called Department of safeguards that tries to promote this mission through various measures that ensures the correctness of state nuclear declarations.

Nuclear Safety-IAEA defines safety as its one of the Priorities. It ensures that Nuclear plants are thoroughly safe and prevent nuclear Accidents. Its resources are utilized in providing technical cooperation and preventing nuclear safety proliferation.
